It's only taken 7 years to rip the carpet out of our dining room. I never get why they install carpet in dining rooms. Since my parents moved up their moving day we had a free Labor Day Weekend and figured why not makeover our house. Last time we did this was about 4 years ago when we decided to turn the formal Living Room into an office with french doors over Labor Day.
We ripped up the carpet on Saturday.
Surprisingly this was way faster and easier then we thought it would be.Especially with so many willing hands to help.
It was only slightly more difficult to get up the tack strip.
And to scrape off the carpet pad glue.
The kids were super eager to jump in and help with it all. They ended up taking over ripping up the tack strip. The boys were taking care of the wood and the girls were pulling out the nails.
On Monday we moved on to the install. Ken spent most of the day making cuts. He couldn't keep up with how fast we were laying it. Especially with having to figure out all the tricky angles.
The floor was amazingly easy to lay down. It took us all day because there was definitely a learning curve.
It also took us awhile because of course in the middle of this project we got a call from a realtor of someone wanting to see the house. I tried to push them off but they didn't care. So I had to quickly clean up. Thankfully my friend Tianna was visiting checking out the work and she helped me clean up and move things around.
We were super impressed with our workers! It always surprises me how much our children are willing to help us with these projects. They can take forever cleaning their rooms, but when it is something big like this they are on task and very helpful.
Here's the finished project. Well minus the trim. We should really re-think starting Labor Day Projects, it's been two months and we still haven't finished the trim. It's so nice though to not have carpet in the dining room. It's been so much easier to keep the room clean.
