Happy Groundhogs Day!

I wish today was like the movie Groundhogs Day! We had a wonderfully uplifting day at church, yummy food, good talks with kids, lots of games, and even some time to update our blog. 

 

This is the list the boys came up with to show they are responsible.  There has been quite a bit of talk about responsibility in our house the past year or so because Darin is working towards getting his permit as soon as he turns 15.  We actually feel like the boys, especially Darin are right on track towards becoming a responsible adult and are excited for him to take this next step towards becoming more independent.  We just wanted to point out to Darin and Nathan that they knew they are acting responsibly.  Does that make any sense?  Yeah, we may not have the slightest clue about raising teenagers but it seems to be mostly working and we talk and negotiate a lot:)

 

How to Prove You Are Responsible

(according to Darin and Nathan with very little input from their parents:)

Seriously, we are very proud of them!

* Not lying, Being Honest

* Taking Responsibility for your actions.  No hiding, avoiding, making excuse, or blaming.

* Communicate your plans, schedule, people you will be with.

* Being humble, willing to be taught, willing to listen, having a good attitude.

* Follow your schedule and manage your time.

* Doing what is Right, making good choices.

* Working hard at school.  Following through on your assignments.

* Working hard at home. Showing initiative, doing your chores, helping others.

* Waking up on time to go to Seminary. And participating in the lessons.

* Control your temper, communicate your feelings in constructive ways, or being a peacemaker.

* Doing what you are supposed to do to care of yourself and others. Taking care of your body.

* Caring for your Possessions.  Keeping your room clean, not leaving things on the floor, putting away things you need.

* Respecting other people.

* Willingness to work, learn, and Grow!!

 

 



Anyway, after our talk we played some games, Ken took a nap (he's been recovering from being sick) and when he woke up he entertained the kids with stories from his youth.  Story time with Ken was the best part of the day though and the kids kept begging for one more horse story. What a delightful Sunday!
