National Junior Honor Society

Nathan was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at his Middle School this week.  To celebrate this great honor we had a special dinner for him beforehand with some of his favorite foods.  Fried Chicken and Cheese Fondue with vegetables.

 Then we went to the school for his ceremony.  It was held in the gym.

These are all of the inductees.  I was totally surprised by how many kids there were because the requirements are quite strict and he had to submit a pretty lengthy application.  There were about 80 in his 8th grade class and 65 in the 7th grade class.  There are about 1000 kids at his school so a little more then 10% were inducted.

Since it was in the gym and there was no mention of attire we didn't even think anything of wearing normal everyday clothes.  However when we got there Nathan was like Whoa! Most of the kids are dressed up.  Whoops:)  Really only half the kids were dressed up.  The challenges of being our first kid to get this I suppose.  Darin was invited to apply last year but he never did anything about it until the deadline had passed.

We are super proud of Nathan.  To even be nominated is an honor.  The students have to be nominated by faculty members, maintain a 92.5% GPA, show leadership skills, and be service oriented.  For his application he had to get two reference letters from people outside of the school that he works for or has done service with.  Nathan was super nervous that he wasn't going to get accepted.

This is a picture of one of his reference letters.  Katie Larsen gave Nathan two copies so he could keep one for himself. Nathan mows her lawn regularly.  The other letter came from Kari Purdue.  She is the other Cub Scout Den Leader that Nathan works with as a Den Chief and she wrote about his service with the Cub Scouts.  Both of the letters were quite good, and I just have to say I am super thankful to both of these ladies and I admire them a ton.  It really means a lot that they had such wonderful things to say about Nathan.
