We took the kids on a faux submarine tour and snorkeling for the day. We aren't huge fans of group tours but we wanted to try out snorkeling in the ocean with the girls in a more predictable environment.
The subsee is in the bottom right corner. This is the picture they took of us beforehand, of course we had to buy it because Rose is holding a parrot, she wasn't even scared. We were totally proud of her!
Waiting on the boat. We took about a 30 minute boat ride through the lagoon to the reefs on the ocean.
The kids certainly drank up the complimentary soda. The got multiple refills of Manzanita de Sol. That's apple soda, their favorite.
The boys went up on top with Ken for awhile. This is what the lagoon looks like. Not exactly what I always imagined.

We got to see some pretty cool things in the Subsee: a couple of rays, tortoises, the reef, and of course lots of fish.
The girls were sitting in front of us and really like looking out the windows.
Then it was on to the main event--Snorkeling!
Oh my goodness were the little girls so excited. Actually Ken and I were totally excited too. We've always taken the girls with us on our previous snorkel trips but they just got flung over our back and went along for the ride. Sure they would hold a snorkel mask over their eyes and peer in for a few seconds at a time. But this was the first time they truly went snorkeling.
They've never been snorkeling like this before. It was awesome! Here is Rose and me.
A glimpse of Ginger.
Ginger went with Ken and totally loved it. She was a pro! Rose was too, but she was beyond frustrated with all of us. She didn't want to hold my hand let alone have her brothers or anyone else around. The way it works on these guided snorkel tours is they have a buoys marking the way out to the reefs and you have to swim through the channel, so at times it was kind of crowded around Rose. By the time we swam out to the reefs we didn't have much time and the guides were calling us back to the boat.

The captain was really nice and offered all the kids on the tour a chance to ride in his seat.

Back on land! I get kind of sea sick on boats. The subsee was the worst but it felt good to have steady feet.

Seriously they couldn't get enough of snorkeling.
They also wanted to hang out with their friend Obai and Grace.
Or maybe our kids just don't know what to do with themselves without a snorkel mask on:-)
