Vroom Vroom (Day 7)

On our way to the Blackhawk Auto Museum we got stuck in serious traffic. It took us two hours during the middle of the week, during the middle of the day to drive to Danville. It was ridiculous, but when we were going home at 6pm we saw that it was completely stop and go the entire way. I can't believe we were ever thinking of living there. This experience made me appreciate very much that Ken has been able to keep telecommuting instead of moving to CA and dealing with the traffic.

I got bored and took pictures of the kids. This is typical of Nathan to curl up in a ball and read whenever we are going anywhere. He will not put down his book, EVER! He just finished a 320 page book in a day. He totally takes after Ken.
Darin reads about half the time, the rest he likes to talk to me or listen to music and look around.

Ginger slept the entire way. Rose fell asleep about halfway through. But the exciting part was that we left her favorite purple blankie at home. Normally whenever she grabs her blankie then her pointer finger goes in her mouth and she zones out. If she is in the car then she will usually fall asleep. But that blankie is really her security blanket.

I don't mind her having a favorite blankie, but we are trying to ease her out of sucking on her finger. Her teeth are extremely messed up, and that finger has a callus on it. It seems like if she does not have her blankie then she will not suck on her finger. We have been able to talk her out of dragging it around all the time because she is a "big girl" or to keep the blankie safe. And now she finally fell asleep without sucking on her finger! It's a huge moment for us!!!


The Blackhawk Museum as over a hundred classic cars on display. They have been immaculately restored. The museum is all black with each car perfectly spotlighted. They have two floors, the upper floor is pre-war cars. It was amazing how huge these cars were. Nearly all of them were just as long or longer then my suburban.





Rose and Ginger by this midget car. This car was built in 1960 and got 60 mpg. Crazy Huh! You would think in 50 years they would have found a way to duplicate that throughout the entire industry.

On the overlook of the 1st floor. The kids saw a preview of all the cars. The funny thing is they picked out favorites from above, but once we were on the ground they changed their mind.


This is the post-war era. The cars were all alot smaller and slicker. Quite a few were cars that won the Pebble Beach race.


This was both of the boys favorite. Although they both wanted it in different colors.




Ginger was totally naughty in the museum after I let her out of her stroller. She just wanted to run. But she would hold Rose's hand and walk with her.

There is this hallway with model cars. The kids wanted their picture taken by these bubbles.

This was Darin's favorite. It was a model of what people in the 40's thought a futuristic car would look like.

This is Rose's favorite. Attached to the Auto museum is the museum for the wheelchair. I don't really understand because the Wheelchair Foundation or whatever had different art pieces on display. This was the only think that was a wheelchair. It was weird!

Darin holding Ginger up so she can see. I am very thankful the boys are so helpful on these trips. I couldn't take them to all these fun places otherwise.

Finally Freedom! Should a 19 month old really look like a track star??? Ginger seriously loved the freedom and she just ran back and forth like 20 times before she settled down.

And this is why I call the Monkeys!

Outside of the museum there is a mall and a small river with waterfalls and a children's playground. The girls definately liked this more then the museum and we spent an hour and a half playing on.

Rose loved doing the monkey bars. I am amazed at how much strength she has. She could hang for a very long time. She can't swing from bar to bar quite by herself but she is pretty close. I would push her along and then she would grab for the next one.

Their were lots of ducks and Ginger kept asking me for crackers then running over to the ducks and throwing it at them.

I would ask her if she ate the cracker and she would say "Yes!" Ask for more and then run to the ducks. She did this a couple of times and thought she was really getting away with something.

After playing on the playground we got ice cream at a deli nearby and ate it outside. We are really loving the California weather. It was a little warmer in Danville, 85 degrees. But in the shade with the breeze it was perfect!
