To celebrate report cards this time our kids talked me into making them a special breakfast and watching movies on a Saturday morning. Which resulted in no Saturday morning chores and also morphed into them sleeping downstairs together the entire three day weekend. Kind of makes me wonder if they really earned those grades or if they are just really good at talking their teachers into giving them what they want;)
Breakfast was eggs, rice, bacon, pancakes with buttermilk syrup, and hot chocolate!
The boys even hauled down Darin's mattress so they could be comfortable, along with a thousand blankets and pillows!
Cute baby Hazel is squishing her nose up when she is super happy now. So adorable!
The boys also got the results from their final and their transcript of the Health class they took online. This was an independent study online class they took from the University of Texas (UT). After the drama last year of Darin's health teacher showing a bunch of inappropriate movies (6 lifetime movies, plus a bunch of other junk movies that gratified sex) and how uncomfortable it made him feel we switched him out of the class and then the boys started the online class this fall.
I won't lie, it was not a fun experience for them! It required them to do a ton more work then they would have in the high school class, we had to pay almost $250 per each boy when all was said and done, plus it was one more thing for them to do. But, it was so worth the education they received. This class was a much better and a factual based class on physical and emotional health, sexual education, drugs, etc. We are super proud of the boys for being willing to put in so much time and effort and for recognizing that they did not want to subject themselves to the garbage being shown at the high school. They probably would have gotten a very easy A in the health class in the high school since it pretty much only required watching movies and filling out a dumb worksheet. Instead they worked their tails off and both got an 89, this is the proudest I have ever been of them for a grade.
Ginger's teacher recommended her for the Gifted and Talented program. She has been going through testing and had to complete a project at home. She decided to make a Pokémon game and had everyone play it with her. Ginger has been in the Spanish Immersion 1st grade class. We had hoped that it would help her not be so bored at school, since often she would come home and be so excited to tell us that she got to sweep the floor in kindergarten after she finished her work. Who-hoo! Unfortunately, the class has only helped a little. She still needs to be challenged and hopefully G/T will work. Her teacher has also suggested maybe having her skip a grade. I'm not sure how we feel about that. Emotionally she probably won't like it and she has many friends in her grade level.
