Ginger's Reading Rewards

Ken has done a reading program with all of our kids as soon as they start learning how to read, he still does it with the boys.  Ginger has been absolutely thrilled to start learning.  She says, "It's finally my turn, Yes!!!"  She has been our most enthusiastic reader and wakes up every morning asking if we can do her reading.  It comes easily and naturally for Ginger.  I kind of feel like it is a blessing after working so hard to teach Rose.  At the same time though I can see how struggling and persistence has really shaped Rose and I think it is a blessing to have a child struggle in the early years of school because the skills they learn will help them through the rest of their education.

All of the siblings made a pact last spring to have everyone participate in each others reading program awards.  Ken does small, more frequent rewards with the girls while the boys have to track it for months at a time and get a large reward.  Either way the rewards involve Ken playing with them.  When the four of them agree on something it pretty much ties our hands as parents, so even though the rewards are now more expensive then if Ken was just playing with one child we are doing it.  It's been great to see how much the siblings encourage each other since they are impacted by each others success!

We had a couple of free passes to Texas Jumping Beans which is basically a warehouse filled with inflatable jumping things.  The kids loved it!
